Family Literacy Day - January 27
"Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.
Since 1999, schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups across the country have taken part in the initiative. ABC creates free learning and promotional resources for anyone that wants to get involved.
Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
This year's theme is Make Mealtime Family Learning Time.
Preparing for mealtime is a fun (and tasty) way for families to learn together. Whether it’s following recipes, making shopping lists, or sharing stories at the dinner table, make your mealtime family learning time."
Our wonderful SNSCC is sponsoring a family literacy bingo, your child(ren) will bring a paper copy home today or tomorrow to give you some time over the weekend and into Family Literacy Week next week to tackle some of the tasks on the Bingo Card. It is a double-whammy because returning the bingo card with at least three activities completed and signed for will enter your child into a prize draw AND for all the cards submitted by the 29th, we will mail them away to Foundations Learning and Skills Saskatchewan for another chance at winning a prize. Please complete the back of the Bingo card so that we know who submitted their card. We would love it if you shared pictures of your family completing any of the activities with us!
There will be individual prizes in addition to a class prize > the class with the highest percentage of participation will "win" 30 minutes of bonus gym time. :)
