A bill was passed by Parliament that made January 4 National Ribbon Skirt and Shirt Day across Canada. PVSD schools will be celebrating Ribbon Skirt Day on Friday, January 9 to honour honor Indigenous culture, traditions, and language. This day provides an opportunity for Indigenous people to celebrate their identity by wearing Ribbon Skirts or Shirts, which have been a part of Indigenous cultures for centuries. Non-Indigenous people are encouraged to recognize and learn about the importance of these customs. If you have been gifted a ribbon skirt or shirt or purchased one from an Indigenous person or business, please feel free to wear it proudly on Friday and any other day you wish.
